Williams College Museum of Art
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
This building, one of the finest on the Williams campus, has evolved over the years from a brick Greek Revival octagon (1846) to its present size, which includes additions by renowned architect Charles Moore. The building's unassuming exterior belies the dramatic atrium and neatly sculpted, well-lit gallery spaces within. The collection includes 12,000 works that span the history of art, with an emphasis in modern art from the late 18thC to the present. It is particularly strong in American art: Copley, Homer, Eakins, Hopper, Inness, O'Keeffe and Wood are all represented. Art that represents world cultures is a growing category here.
