Maria am Gestade (Mary on the Riverbank) is one of the prettiest churches in Vienna. It was built in the late 14C in the Gothic style by Michael Knab, on the site of a Romanesque church, which at the time stood on a terrace overlooking the Danube. This tall, narrow building (33m by 9.7m) has a Flamboyant-Gothic west façade. The tower has seven horizontal sections and a fine openwork spire.
