Wicklow's main attraction is its imposing and austere grey stone prison. The building now houses a museum where waxwork figures and actors in costume recreate the sinister atmosphere of the prison as it would have been between 1702 and 1924, when prisoners were kept here awaiting their transportation to Australia ... or their execution.
