When native Vermonters Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield signed up for a $5 correspondence course in ice-cream-making and opened a tiny scoop shop in Burlington in the late 1970s, little did they know that their venture would grow into a multimillion-dollar global operation. Tours of their small factory-which was purchased by Unilever in 2000-offer views of the packing plant, and conclude with free samples.
