In wo separate parcels, this park preserves sites connected with Gorge Washington's famous crossing of the Delaware River in the winter of 1776 to launch a surprise attack on Britain's Hessian forces encamped across the river in Trenton, New Jersey. The Lower Park (7mi south of New Hope) contains the visitor center and a row of restored buildings from the 18C ferry-crossing town of Taylorsville. The Upper Park (3.5mi north of visitor center) preserves the 1702 fieldstone house that served as the Continental commander's headquarters during December 1776.
