Wadi el-Natroun
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
On the edge of the Libyan Desert, not far from the motorway between Cairo and Alexandria, is a depression, fertilised over some 30km. Known and worked since ancient times, Wadi el-Natroun has been a monastic centre since the early 4C. Today this little valley is the headquarters of four Coptic monasteries.
