The Michelin Guide's review
It was on this 48m-high hill that Vilnius was first founded, replacing Trakai as the nation's capial. Since the 13C, an octagonal brick tower (Gedimin bokstas) has stood here, all that remains of a larger castle. Visible throughout the city, it is topped by the Lithuanian flag (the latest of many to have flown here). It houses the Gediminas tower museum, reached up some steep steps. After passing through the armoury, visitors reach a terrace from where the view over the city is unforgettable.
