The Michelin Guide's review
This 16C gate leading onto the Minsk road is the only one to survive of the entrances that once served the capital. It has two very different faces: its sober external façade is surmounted by Vytis, a white knight and two griffons, the emblem of Lithuania. On the north side, the luminous Our Lady of the Gate of Dawn, painted in 1620 on oak panels, can be seen through the window. Housed in the Chapel of the Virgin Mary, the black-faced Madonna of Vilnius is depicted without the child Jesus, wearing a habit of silver gilt.
