Villebois-Lavalette Castle
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
Four castles have existed here for a thousand years. It has been the object of two restorations since the 1980s and is regularly the scene of excavation work. As a result, behind the walls dotted with seven round towers and a 14C gate, a 30m-long lower room (12C) and a 12C-13C chapel built on two levels are visible. From the castle lodge, it is still possible to admire the lovely Gothic window of the west wing and part of the southern edifice. Splendid view from the ramparts.
