Roman Villa of São Cucufate
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
Excavations have unearthed the ruins of an important 4C Roman villa, which was the residence of a wealthy landowner. What is interesting is that it has two floors built of brick and stone. The upper level is supported by a vaulted gallery, which is rare on the Iberian peninsular. To the south you can see the remains of a temple. In the middle ages the north section of the villa was converted to a convent - the church has preserved some frescoes.
