The chalets on Boulevard des États-Unis, built in 1862 to welcome Napoleon III, are a blend of "Swiss" and "Colonial" styles. There followed a creative outpouring in which architects competed to create the most imaginative designs: on Boulevard de la Russie (notably the Neoclassical villa at nº 21 and the Art Deco house at nº 29; on Rue de Belgique (the Venetian villa at nº 7 and Castel Flamand at nº 2; and at n° 8 on Rue Prunelle, a surprisingly authentic English cottage.
