The Michelin Guide's review
Dominated by its columns bearing the lion of St Mark and the Redeemer, this square plays the same role as Piazza San Marco in Venice; that of a forum inherited from classical civilisation. The extremely high Bissara Tower (12C belfry), the basilica (a masterpiece by Palladio), the Monte di Pieta (15C) decorated with frescoes, the Baroque façade of the church of San Vincenzo and the Loggia del Capitaniato together confer on this square an air of gentility.
