The Michelin Guide's review
Situated on the plain below the city, the Aigai Necropolis is a field of tumuli (300). The most striking is of course the royal tumulus, which houses several tombs dating back to the 4C BC. Reconstructed after excavations were completed, this 13m-high by 100m-wide mound now contains a magnificent museum. The majestic tomb façade belonging to Philip II of Macedonia is among those on show. The interior has yielded an astounding wealth of funerary objects.
