The Michelin Guide's review
Named after its red cliff dotted with caves, this site overlooking the sea is outstanding from an archaeological point of view. Excavation of the caves at the foot of the red cliff has unearthed the remains of elephants, hippopotamus, marmots and reindeer, as well as human remains and other objects such as small statues of "Venus". A museum provides information on the site, where the presence of mankind can be traced back to the Palaeolithic era.
