The Grand Canal is 3.8km in length and varies between 30m and 70m in width at different points in the city. Simply spectacular, the Grand Canal is striking for its famous palazzi (especially impressive by night) but also because of its teeming human activity; the area around Rialto bridge is particularly lively. It's well worth jumping on a vaporetto and taking a trip down this legendary waterway, enjoying the extraordinary sight of Venice as you make your way across the water.
