Between St Mark's Square and Rialto Bridge, the Haberdashery neighbourhood of shopping streets (mèrce means goods) has ever been the commercial centre in Venice. This area hardly ever slows down, and the shops are busy, whether they are filled with locals buying household staples, or the ubiquitous souvenir shops packed to the seams with tourists.
