The Michelin Guide's review
Originally founded in the 7C, San Nicolò dei Mendicoli church was rebuilt in the 12C, along with its massive bell tower. The side entrance made from Istrian stone provides a sharp contrast with the brick wall. The interior, divided into three aisles, has retained its old central apse. Also worthy of note are the fragments of frescoes from the 14C, the wood panelling and iconostasis from the 16C, and the paintings depicting the life of Christ by followers of Veronese.
