The Michelin Guide's review
This historical 21-storey building, built at a time when Canada was in the depths of the Great Depression and inaugurated in 1930, is one of the finest examples of Art Deco in the world. The ceramic ornamentation depicts maritime scenes in tribute to Vancouver's close ties with the sea. The almost phantasmagorical lobby is reminiscent of a Mayan temple.
