The Michelin Guide's review
Commissioned in 1580 from Juan de Herrera, the cathedral took so long to build that its contributors over the 17C and 19C rather ending up adulterating the initial intention. The interior gives an insight into the monumental goal. The altarpiece, by Juan de Juni, whose statues seem to converse, is set in the central apse. The cathedral also houses a diocesan museum, with a fine collection of sculpture, recumbent statues, paintings, gold and silverwork and ornaments.
