The Michelin Guide's review
Creole culture is the focus of excellent guided tours of this colorfully painted raised Creole cottage (1805), restored after a devastating fire in 2004. The sugarcane plantation here was operated by the women of the Du Parc and Locoul families for 84 years, until Laura Locoul sold a portion of the lands to the German-born Wauguespack family. Also on the site are twelve historic outbuildings, including original slave cabins where, in the 1870s, the African folktales of Brer Rabbit were first recorded.
