The Michelin Guide's review
Named for the elegant alley planted with 28 three-hundred-year-old live oak trees, this stately Greek-Revival mansion (1839) was the heart of a thriving plantation that extended over more than 450ha. Restored in 1925, Oak Alley Plantation symbolises the exuberant splendour of the former plantations. Twenty-eight columns support the dual-level exterior gallery. Other buildings are open to the public, such as the blacksmith shop and slave quarters, and an exhibition on slavery.
