The Michelin Guide's review
The Governor's Palace was built by Lord Chaac, who reigned at Uxmal in the early 10C and expanded the city's influence. His palace, almost 100m long, is superbly decorated and oriented to observe the planet Venus rising from the main entrance. When the planet was at its furthest distance from the palace, it appeared above the royal throne, formed by two jaguars in the middle of the esplanade - a spectacular way to compare the king with the balance of the cosmos.
