Château d'Urtubie
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
This castle, which consisted only of a keep in 1341, gradually became an elegant classical residence. Note the elegant sloping roofs of the two 14C towers, the remarkable 16C suspended spiral staircase of the central tower, the 16C Brussels tapestries in the Grand Salon, and the Spanish furniture dating from the time of Louis XIV in the dining room. Pleasant landscaped gardens surround the castle (part of which has been converted into a hotel). The orangery houses exhibitions and a tea room.
