Marble Hill House
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
The beautiful 18C Marble Hill House was built in Palladian style (after Palladio, a 16C Italian architect) for Henrietta Howard, a mistress of the future King George II (1683-1760). Its three floors are decorated with stucco (sculptures imitating marble). The central porch beneath a pediment covers a rather insignificant entrance. The paintings, furniture and porcelain displayed today recall the taste for the Orient in the 18C.
