In the centre of Tunxi, the picturesque cobbled Lao Jie, or "old street", has retained its traditional carved vermilion façades: varied motifs with a predominance of geometric friezes and vegetation, and, on the consoles, mythical characters and animals. Be sure to stop at the former apothecary, which still houses a medicinal plant library. The street continues westward via an old six-arched bridge dating from the Ming dynasty (17C).
