St Stephan's Parish Church, Tulln (Pfarrkirche)
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
This former 12C Romanesque basilica, dedicated to St Stephen, was given Gothic vaulting in the 15C, then "Baroquized" in the 18C, has a strikingly spacious nave and chancel. The main façade's Romanesque portal, framed by two Baroque towers, is adorned with busts of the twelve apostles and topped by a double-headed eagle holding two Turks' heads in its claws as a reminder of the terrible invasions that Austria experienced in the 16C and 17C.
