The Michelin Guide's review
Nine adobe fortresses, grouped quite close together and probably built by different sovereigns, all of which contain a palace, housing, water tanks, ceremonial areas and mortuary chambers. Such is the exceptional archaeological site of Chan Chan, capital of the Chimú towards 1300. The immaculately renovated Nik An palace (formerly Tschudi palace) invites the visitor to imagine everyday life in the different districts, while admiring the beautiful carvings that grace its buildings.
