The Michelin Guide's review
The Plaza de Armas paints a beautiful picture by its scope, harmonious colours and the charming lines of its facades. Among the surrounding buildings, look out for the Casa Urquiaga, an immense Neoclassical colonial style where Simón Bolívar lived. The flamboyant ochre yellow 17C cathedral is lavishly decorated with stucco and white mouldings. In the centre of the square, the monument put up in tribute to the libertadores depicts a symbol of Freedom holding an allegorical torch.
