The Michelin Guide's review
Built in the mid-18C in the Borgo Teresiano quarter, the Canal Grande enabled ships to arrive in the heart of Trieste. Today, it offers an enchanting setting with small boats. A few reference points: the neo-Classical church, Chiesa Sant'Antonio Taumaturgo at the end of the canal; the historical café Stella Polare and the Serbian Orthodox Church of San Spiridone (1869); the statue of James Joyce on one of the bridges straddling the canal.
