St Peter's Cathedral of Trier

The Michelin Guide's review
The cathedral looks more like a fortress than a church. Its massive and austere façade with its squat rounded towers is a fine example of Early Romanesque architecture. The essentially Baroque interior contains interesting altarpieces. The south aisle houses a magnificent tympanum while the treasury contains splendid ivories and silver and gold plate (case for the Holy Nail). The Gothic cloister offers a good view of the cathedral.
