Perched on a wooded hillside dominating a lake, Trakošćan castle is truly remarkable. Built in the 13C, it has evolved over the centuries and acquired its current romantic allure of German inspiration in the mid-19C. Behind its crenellated walls dotted with Gothic windows, the castle has retained much of its period furnishings, most of which was made to measure for the Counts of Drašković who lived here from the late 16C.
