Kannon-in garden
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
Blending in with the surrounding woodland, Kannon-in garden was commissioned in the 17C by Lord Ikeda Mitsunaka and designed in the style of the tea gardens of Kyoto. The garden is depicted by a small hill dotted with rocks and a large pond, in the centre of which are two islets that symbolise the tortoise and the crane. In characteristic shakkei fashion, it is designed to make the most of the natural "borrowed scenery" in the background.
