The Michelin Guide's review
Overlooking the valley of Parma in a beautiful site surrounded by hills, this square fortress with a central courtyard is powerfully fortified by triple ramparts and four massive corner towers. In the 16C, elegant terraces were laid out in front of the two wings facing the valley. The apartments are adorned with 16C frescoes and the south-east tower is home to the aptly named Camera d'Oro (gold chamber), which was decorated by Benedetto Bembo between 1460 and 1463.
