The Michelin Guide's review
This fine example of a suburban Roman villa, UNESCO listed in 1997, may have belonged to Nero's wife, Poppea. It still has some lovely original frescoes, including numerous depictions of peacocks. Within this huge building, the servants' wing and imperial apartments are easily identified - you will notice the kitchen with its oven and sink - as are the latrines, which had a highly advanced flush system.
