The Michelin Guide's review
The Arabs built a mosque on the ruins of a Visigoth temple. In the 12C it was transformed into a Mudéjar church. It is said that Alfonso VI discovered a figure of Christ here illuminated by a Visigoth lamp. This « Christ of the Light» gave the church its name. Inside, pillars of Visigoth origin support blind arcades one on top of the other, as in the mosque in Cordoba. From the garden, you can reach the top of the Puerta del Sol from which there is a magnificent view.
