Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
A sanctuary for more than 500 animal species (some of endangered), the Merritt Island National Wildlife Area covers 56 657ha belonging to NASA. A further 600ha are devoted to citrus cultivation. Areas open to the public (north of Highway 402) give an idea of the Florida coastline before the arrival of humans. Playalinda Beach looks like the end of the world, while the Black Point Wildlife Drive provides a close-up look at the waterfowl.
