Poised between lake and mountain, Thonon was strategically located for smuggling, the main theme of the collections. In addition to bootlegger's strategies and customs seizures, the museum, set in the vaulted cellars of Sonnaz castle and former residence of the Dukes of Savoie (17C), exhibits the majestic barges of Lake Geneva.
