The Michelin Guide's review
This architectural group was built between 297 and 307, when the emperor Maximinus Galerius chose Thessaloniki as seat of the eastern part of the Roman Empire. Covering an area of 15ha, it was the centre of the city until the early 6C. Its significant vestiges are among Thessaloniki's 14 UNESCO-listed palaeo-Christian and Byzantine monuments.
