Wolf Haven International
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
Founded in 1983 to provide a sanctuary for unwanted captive wolves and to re-educate the public concerning the animals, an 80-acre site nestled into a forest amid the Mima Mounds houses more than a dozen gray wolves bred in captivity. Guided tours among the large, open-air animal enclosures explain wolf behavior and socialization. The facility is also the major breeder of the extremely endangered Mexican gray wolf (enclosures not on view). An ongoing program to re-introduce animals from the center into their natural habitat has thus far met with little success, owing to human predation.
