American Legation
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
In 1821 the sultan gifted this house to the United States to accommodate its diplomats. It is from here that, in 1942, a team from the OSS, the future CIA, prepared the American landings in North Africa. Still American property, the former legation has remained in its original state since the 1940s: you can visit the consul's office, as well as the meeting and reception rooms, which are lavishly decorated with paintings, old maps and period photos. A pavilion is dedicated to the writer Paul Bowles.
