The Michelin Guide's review
Tahlequah was the end of the "Trail of Tears" for the Cherokees. The Heritage Center, established in 1963, is located on 44 wooded acres south of town. Modern Cherokees lead interpretive tours of a replica pre-European settlement where craftspeople reenact the activities of their ancestors, demonstrating practices such as flint-knapping, basketry and pottery. Adams Corner Rural Village represents a typical 1880s Cherokee community. The Cherokee National Museum features a poignant exhibit recalling tribal history.
