Temple of Universal Salvation
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
Founded in the 11C, the most important temple on the island of Putuoshan is heralded by the 16C Pagoda of the Multiple Treasures, quadrangular in shape, decorated with bas-reliefs depicting Buddha. In the main courtyard, a thousand-year-old camphor tree attracts women, who kiss it for fertility. In the main pavilion, the Hall of Perfect Understanding houses the bronze statue of Guanyin, which is surrounded by large yellow drapes with the figures of the 32 lives of the Bodhisattva around it.
