The Michelin Guide's review
The synagogue in Szeged is considered the most beautiful in Hungary, and possibly even Europe. It was built in 1907 in the Art Nouveau style with Moorish elements. An immense dome supported by 24 columns and decorated with flowers, is surmounted by a Star of David. The stained-glass windows are by Miksa Róth, a celebrated glassmaker, who decorated Budapest's Academy of Music. The names of Jews from Szeged and Kistelek who were deported during the Second World War are engraved on marble plaques in the entrance hall.
