Mining magnate William Boyce Thompson turned this site beneath Picketpost Mountain into a 300-acre public park in the 1920s. The 1.5mi main trail provides an overview; other trails take in a variety of vegetation that attracts a year-round colony of colorful birds. A hidden canyon, desert lake and interpretive center with two greenhouses are on site.
