The Michelin Guide's review
Songgwangsa is the third of the Three Jewel Temples of Buddhism. The first treasure, Buddha, is associated with Tongdo Temple for its relics of Sakyamuni; the second, the dharma (doctrine) is associated with Haein Temple for its 80 000 xylographic tablets; and Songgwang is associated with the sangha, the community of monks, for its incredible production of guksa (national masters). Indeed, it has trained no fewer than 16, whose portraits are collected in the Guksa-jeon, and remains a major centre of study and meditation.
