The Michelin Guide's review
Recreational opportunities abound in this vast park, built around 820ft-high Stone Mountain, the world's largest granite outcrop. The park's focal point is the giant Confederate Memorial carving of Jefferson Davis and generals Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson on the face of the mountain. Stone carver, Gutzon Borglum, famous for his presidential profiles on Mt. Rushmore, began work here in 1923; the carving was completed in 1972. Kids will enjoy the train ride.
