The Michelin Guide's review
Once the centre of burgh life, Broad Street, with its mercat cross, was where the market - and executions - were held. The tolbooth (1701-04) was designed by Sir William Bruce and is now a centre for music and the arts. Its six-storey tower is topped with a Dutch pavilion roof. At no 16 is a narrow gabled house with pedimented windows.
