Two groups of Mennonites exist in Canada: the Swiss-Germanic of Ontario and the Russian Mennonites of the West. Extreme pacifists who refuse to fight in any war, both are descended from the Protestant sect led by Menno Simons. Originally settled in rural communities throughout Europe, repeated persecution forced them to flee. This village recreates the atmosphere of a Mennonite community of Manitoba towards 1874.
