The Michelin Guide's review
This museum of popular traditions enthrallingly illustrates the context and conditions of life in the North of England from the early 19C to the turn of the 20C, at the time of the Industrial Revolution. Tramways from the time transport visitors through the site up to the town, where life-size living quarters and workplaces have been reconstructed. The collection of old vehicles and the life-size replica of Stephenson's Locomotion (1825) are also fascinating.
