St-Avit-Sénieur church
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
This 60m long, 20m wide and 43m high 14C fortified church looks very imposing indeed. Its design (crenellated bartizan, high, almost blind east-end walls, towers linked by watch-paths on either side of the west front) conveys an austere and severe impression. Excavations carried out on the south side of the Benedictine abbey have revealed the remains of an Augustinian monastery destroyed during the Wars of Religion.
